Location area and Administrative pattern
It is usually this wet zone climate that rains in the months of May and August during the Southwest monsoon rains in November and February of the NWN monsoon. Ellawala Ganga, Gatahaththa oya and Karandana oya are the main waterways of the division.
The Kalatuwawa reservoir which is the major source of energy for the whole of Sri Lanka is located here.
According to the Soil classification in Sri Lanka it has been proved that there is a rich variety of soils with red and yellow Podsolic. Apart from this, red soil can be seen with gravel and soils.
Land use and land tenure
There is more agriculture and rubber cultivation. There is more farming in the farmer field and cultivators are cultivating their own paddy fields. In addition, rubber cultivation is also dominated by a range number of other crops such as tea and coconuts. Most of the inhabitants are individually occupied by landslides and some have encroached lands.
Historical Background
The Eheliyagoda Pradeshiya Sabha has a number of legends when looking at the historical backgroud. The first Rajasingha government, which ruled the kingdom of Sithawaka, ruled its history. The first king Rajasinghe is a frequent man and a man who walked across the country as an ordinary man and popularly known as the frightful man of the country. So, day after day, the countrymen were cringing and sorely visiting the streets, so they had to find a place to spend the night. The house was spent in the house of a beautiful woman named Ehelamali in this area. it was said that the king who was hospitable to the king honorably welcomed him and named it "Eheli Godella". It was an ancient idea that Eheli's burial mound later became an Eheliyagoda.
Another saying that the name Eheliyagoda was derived has been that a woman named Eheli Malini in the area was employed in a livelihood. a high-rise building was used to wash the clothes. This place was used as a lodging place for caravans traveling on a long journey. Eheliyagoda had been named as Eheliyagoda in the area after that place.
